Forehead and Brow Lift

In the course of time, the skin on the forehead and temples loses its elasticity due to various factors such as gravity, exposure to the sun, environmental influences, but also genetic factors. Over time, the eyebrow arch sinks, the upper eyelids become heavier and the eyebrows are pulled up reflexively to improve vision. This strengthens the transverse forehead wrinkles.
The face looks more interesting and varied, but can also give a tired or sad impression. With a forehead and/or brow lift, the dynamics of the upper third of the face can be sustainably restored.

What is a brow and forehead lift?

There are a variety of minimally invasive procedures that can contribute to a younger appearance in the upper half of the face. Mimic wrinkles, for example, can be injected with Botox, deep wrinkles with hyaluronic acid or fat. Laser treatments, peelings or a suture lift can also reduce wrinkles. All these forms of treatment are only of limited duration and cannot guarantee a permanent tightening of the deeper tissue and the descended soft tissues of the forehead and eyebrow areas.

The actual aim of a surgical forehead and brow lift is to smoothen the forehead skin and lift the descended eyebrows. This can be done surgically in an open approach or endoscopically.

With an open forehead lift, the skin incisions are made in the area of the hairline. The hair thus hides the scar. With this technique it is possible to correct a hairline which is too high or too low at the same time. In the case of an advanced aging process and a distinct sagging of the skin, the classic forehead lift is more suitable than the endoscopic lift.

With an endoscopic forehead lift, only a few and tiny skin incisions are made in the hairy area above the forehead. Through these incisions we introduce tiny instruments and prepare the tissue structures under monitor view in such a way that mimic wrinkles are smoothed and the eyebrows are lifted. Since this procedure does not remove excess skin, this method is more suitable for younger people and for those who wish to have minor corrections.

For men with deep forehead wrinkles and sparse hair growth, the skin incision can also be made in the middle of the forehead and skin wrinkles removed at the same time (midforehead lift).

In a direct brow lift, the skin incision is located in the area of the hairy brow region above the eyebrows. From here, the periosteum with the tissue above it and the mimic muscles are detached up to the eyebrow and tightened upwards after removal of excess skin. This method leaves a fine scar on the upper edge of the eyebrow.

Am I a good candidate for aforehead lift/brow lift?

Do you have the desire for a more alert, youthful appearance with less forehead wrinkles and elevated brows? Have minimally invasive treatments not achieved the desired tightening effect and are you looking for a longer lasting result? Then a forehead-eyebrow lift can be a good solution.

What can I expect after a forehead/brow lift?

A rejuvenating effect of the forehead and brow area of several years can be achieved with the lift operation. The face looks naturally tightened and shows new elasticity and vitality.

What happens during the consultation?

In an initial conversation, we will show you all correction options that are tailored to your individual needs and wishes. For this purpose, we analyze the expression and localization of the forehead wrinkles as well as the skin quality, taking into account the position of the eyebrows and the hairline height. In order to be able to plan the course of the operation and the result in detail, we also prepare a digital photo documentation.

As a prerequisite for every operation in our practice, there is a detailed discussion between you and the doctors. Only when we have a thorough picture of your medical history and your desired result can we identify possible contraindications at an early stage and determine the right approach for you.

How is the surgery performed?

The forehead and brow takes 2-3 hours and is usually performed under general anesthesia, occasionally under local anesthesia with twilight sleep. Depending on the surgical technique, this can be done in a day clinic or as an in-patient with an overnight stay in a clinic. This is individually evaluated and decided upon in advance in our consultation.

What about the follow-up treatment?

As with any surgical procedure, you will feel slight pain in the first few days. We will give you adequate painkillers for this and will be happy to answer any other questions you may have. Intensive cooling is necessary to reduce swelling. You should expect more or less pronounced swelling and bruising in the first 2 weeks. We remove the stitches after approx. 10 days.

The final result can be assessed after 2-3 months, after all swelling has subsided.

What are the risks?

Every operation involves surgical and anesthesia-related risks. Especially for patients who smoke or suffer from overweight or diabetes, there is an increased risk of surgical complications.
