Removal of vascular lesions
An even skin tone decisively reflects vitality and youthfulness. Not only pigmentary changes can have a negative effect on the skin, but also vascular lesions contribute to the fact that our skin is perceived as uneven.
There are a large number of different vascular changes. Some are congenital, such as port-wine stains, while others are associated with inflammatory skin diseases, such as rosacea. The aging process also leads to more visible and broken vessels, especially in the face and décolleté. Vascular changes are frequent and affect up to 50% of the over 20-year-old population.
One does not have to resign oneself to these changes at all. If used correctly, a vascular laser can achieve a clear lightening or even disappearance of the vascular changes.
Our Excel V laser, made by Cutera, a company based in the Silicon Valley, can safely and effectively remove a large number of superficial and deep vascular changes on the face and body thanks to the combination of two high-precision lasers.
How are vascular lesions removed?
There are various laser and light devices that can treat vascular changes. The prerequisite for effective and safe treatment is that the wavelength of the laser used is absorbed by the haemoglobin in the blood.
How does Excel V work?
The Excel V combines two high-precision and powerful lasers in one device. The two effective wavelengths – 532 nm and 1064 nm – allow it to treat over 20 indications for all skin types. Both wavelengths are absorbed by the blood pigment haemoglobin and penetrate at different depths, allowing the treatment of vascular changes localized at different depths. A cooling sapphire glass is built directly into the handpiece to cool the skin surface, which reduces pain and minimizes unwanted side effects.
The Excel V’s ability to select energy density, pulse duration and treatment area (spot size) at both wavelengths allows a unique customization of the treatment to your needs and clinical situation.
The most common clinical indications are:
- Telangiectasias (broken vessels)
- Periorbital veins
- Diffuse redness (e.g. rosacea)
- Cherry or spider angiomas
- Skin tags
- Sebaceous hyperplasia
- Red scars
- Haematomas
- Reticular leg veins
- Port-wine stains
Is Exvcel V the right treatment for me?
If you are disturbed by one of the above-mentioned vascular lesions, laser therapy with the Excel V could be an option for you.
What can I expect after treatment with Exvcel V?
In most indications a clearly visible success can be observed after 1-2 treatments. The number of treatments depends on your initial findings and your expectations.
Treatment intervals are typically 4-6 weeks.
What happens during the consult?
In a detailed first consultation we will analyze your vascular change(s), their cause and exact depth as well as your skin type. Based on all these parameters and your needs, we will work with you to develop a treatment plan.
As a second step before the treatment, we will inquire about your medical history to make sure that there are no contraindications for a treatment with the Excel V.
What is the treatment like?
The actual treatment is performed in our treatment room specially designed for the Excel V and lasts a maximum of 30 minutes, depending on the area to be treated. The sapphire glass built into the handpiece has a cooling effect on the treated region before and after therapy, thus reducing pain and unwanted side effects.
The treatment is performed with the individual settings determined in advance. You will wear special protective glasses to protect your eyes.
After the treatment, we will cool the treated area again and apply a nourishing wound cream.
Before each treatment we take a digital photograph to objectify and document the progress.
What about the follow-up treatment?
Redness and swelling are common and decrease spontaneously. Please avoid sun exposure and apply Broadband Spectrum Sunscreen (UVA/UVB) with SPF 50. Strong heat exposure (sauna, steam bath etc.) should be avoided for 2 days.
Otherwise there is nothing special to consider. You can immediately immerse yourself in everyday life again.
What are the risks?
The risks of vascular treatment with the laser are usually minimal. Very rarely, undesired side effects can occur, which usually heal spontaneously. During the treatment you will feel slight discomfort and possibly a burning sensation. Redness and swelling are common and subside spontaneously.
Rarely develop:
- Crust formation
- Local bleeding, bruising
- Blistering
- Hyperpigmentation/Hypopigmentation
- Infection
- Scarring
- Incomplete removal of the vascular changes
- Recurrence of vascular change
